Hataraku! Season 3 is confirmed for 2023 by Maou-sama. Fans criticized the lack of original mood and the poor animation.
The announcement came alongside a new image revealing updated versions of some characters. The anime has now returned in 2022 after inexplicably being shelved for 9 years. However the result did not please most fans due to the poor animation and atmosphere, which lost much of the fun and dynamism seen in the 2013 original. Season 2 was adapted by studio 3Hz, in a clearly rushed manner, replacing White Fox who did a great job on the original series. Hataraku Maou-sama! tells the story of Sadao Maou former king of darkness in a fantasy world who, defeated by the heroine Emylia and the human army, fled to another dimension accidentally falling into modern Japan. However on Earth magic is only a myth and for this reason Sadao and his faithful servant Ashiya lose most of their powers. Forced to survive as a mortal, the great king of darkness now works in a fast food chain while Emylia, who also came here, works as a telemarketing receptionist until she eliminates him. From rivals they become allies (and almost barely married) being pursued by individuals who wish to silence them. The anime covers the light novel by author Satoshi Wagahara ending in 2020.
