A new teaser for the Samurai X version of Rurouni Kenshin will debut in 2023.

A new teaser for the Samurai X version of Rurouni Kenshin will debut in 2023.

The legion of Rurouni Kenshin (or "Samurai X" to us Brazilians) fans, received a welcome gift today during a Japanese event.

The new anime in the series, confirmed 9 months ago, has released a compelling new image and trailer, scheduling its premiere for sometime in 2023 (see below).

The video proves that while there may be occasional plot changes the anime will indeed be a remake, showing snippets of Kenshin Himura's bloodthirsty past and his first encounter with the character Kaoru.

The new Rurouni Kenshi is produced by Liden Films with overall direction by Hideyo Yamamoto (who directed "Strike The Blood") and script by Hideyuki Kurata (who wrote for "Made In Abyss" and "Goblin Slayer").

Among the new voice actors Kenshin will be voiced by Soma Saito (Shuu Ogata from "Engage Kiss") and Kaoru will be played by Rie Takahashi (Megumin from "Konosuba!").

In the original version the same characters were dubbed by Mayo Suzukaze and Miki Fujitani.

The series tells the story of a samurai walker who in the past was known as Batousai (the Shredder), responsible for several murders at the end of the Edo era (around 1868 AD).

Trying to redeem himself for his old sins Kenshin Himura now travels around Japan, always in possession of an inverted-bladed katana, vowing never to take anyone's life again. Eventually he meets jealous Kaoru, little Yahiko and restless Sanosuke creating bonds of friendship. However the dark past and new threats have not forgotten him and soon he will need to fight to protect those dear to him.

The original manga was published between 1994 and 1999 yielding 28 volumes and over 72 million copies sold worldwide. The first adaptation, made by Deen and Gallop Studios, hit TV in 1996 and ran until 1998 for a total of 94 episodes.

A canonical sequel to the manga is currently in publication covering the Hokkaido arc.
