Nier Automata, which was first announced in February of this year, today unveiled additional details, including two brief movies featuring the android 2B and her companion 9S. The animation, which looks good, will debut in January 2023. A-1 Pictures is producing it (same studio as "Lycoris Recoil"). 

The series will revisit the action RPG of the same title published in 2017 by Platinum Games. A critical success, Nier Automata has sold over 6 million units since launch.

The plot unfolds millennia in the future when Earth has been invaded by aliens who have started to mimic human behaviour. Humanity's hope lies in an organisation of female androids created to take back the planet.

The RPG was praised for its gameplay and garnered high averages though criticised for its empty setting and performance issues on PC.

On staff the general direction will be Ryouji Masuyama (was assistant director on "Great Pretender") with script by Yoko Taro (director and creator of the game), character design by Jun Nakai (same position in "Lord El-Melloi II") and soundtrack by the group Monaca (composed for "Oregairu").

The dubbing cast will have the same voices as in the game with 2B played by Yui Ishikawa (Violet from "Violet Evergarden") and 9S dubbed Natsuki Hanae (Tanjirou from "Kimetsu no Yaiba").

Nier Automata has a light novel released in 2017 (2 volumes) in addition to the prologue manga Yorha Shinjuwan Kouka Sakusen Kiroku, started in 2020 with drawings by Megumu Soramichi.
