Bastard!! Ankoku no Hakaishin has new anime confirmed for 2023

Netflix and studio Liden Films confirmed today that a sequel to the Bastard!! Ankoku no Hakaishin, which is expected to hit the service's catalog sometime in 2023. Bastard!! Ankoku no Hakaishin 2, バスタード!! 暗黒の破壊神 2, Bastard‼ Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy 2

The announcement brought with it a new video and image promising a story set two years in the future (see below). Revisiting the old work of Kazushi Hagiwara, the series had its first exhibition last year, separated into two stages that totaled 24 episodes. With 30 million copies sold, the original manga dates from 1987 and was published until 2010 when it went on indefinite hiatus. A first attempt at an anime yielded 6 OVAs released between 1992 and 1993 by the AIC studio.

Merging ecchi, comedy and dark fantasy, the story follows the character Dark Schneider, a dark and ultra-powerful wizard who once threatened the peace of the world. After the great war a seal was placed on him as a baby however Schneider managed to resurface 15 years later. Those who have seen him say he is arrogant and womanizing, not fearing anyone except young Yoko.

If there are no changes, the sequel will maintain the general direction of Takaharu Ozaki (directed "Goblin Slayer: Goblin's Crown"), script by Yousuke Kuroda (wrote for "Boku no Hero Academia") and character design by Sayaka Ono. In the dub Dark Schneider is voiced by Kisho Taniyama (Jean from "Shingeki no Kyojin"), Yoko is played by Tomori Kusunoki (Makima from "Chainsaw Man"), Gara is voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto (Apeas from "Ousama Ranking" ) and Arshes is played by Yoko Hikasa (the Emilia from "Hataraku! Maou-sama").
